Essential Puppy Foundations
Introduction to basic life skills and socialization – Ages 12-20 weeks
Ideally, gentle puppy handling should start at birth to begin building the positive connections your puppy needs to know about the world around them. Once puppies are weaned at 12 weeks old and have had their first set of shots you can start to introduce them to some of the things that they might come into contact with during their lifetime. The right puppy classes can safely expose a puppy to many of the necessary objects and experiences he might encounter as he goes through life with you.
Essential Puppy Foundations is “no-force” training. Modeled after the A.K.C. STAR Puppy program it introduces puppies to fun games that start them on the path to building a connection to you and you to them. These foundations set the groundwork to having calmer interactions with their environment as they mature.
Classes include introducing your puppy to other people and puppies as well as to everyday (and not so everyday) objects and sounds including some of the cooperative care handling techniques they may encounter at the veterinary office or grooming salon. Some puppies don’t start with these first basic steps but we can often overcome any experiences they missed if they are gently exposed to these experiences in puppy training as soon as possible.
Essential Puppy Foundations introduces puppies to fun games that start them on the path to building a connection to you and you to them. We go over things like:
Cues:

- “Down”
- “Come”
- “Stay”
- “Drop It”
- “Place / Go to Mat”
Introductions to things like:
- A collar
- A leash
- A brush
- Nail Clippers
- An uneven surface
Behaviors:
- Hand Target
- Loose Leash Walking
- Body Handling
- Calm When Being Approached By Others
Instructions on how to fearlessly socialize your puppy to objects in the world around them:
- A vacuum
- A broom
- A hairdryer
- A doorbell
- An umbrella

PREMIER Essential Puppy Foundations
We get it, your life is busy but you don’t want your puppy to loose out on the important socializing he needs to feel comfortable in your world for years to come.
The PREMIER Essential Puppy Foundations program includes:
(3) In your own home Private Classes so you don’t have to drive and your pup will be able to focus better.
(3) Supervised outings with your trainer so your pup still gets to socialize with other dogs and people making him more comfortable when you do take him out.
ELITE Essential Puppy Foundations
This program is for those who want the BEST POSSIBLE START for their new puppy. It includes everything in the PREMIER Essential Puppy Foundations AND also includes:
Your Trainer accompanying you on up to two pre-scheduled Fear Free® Veterinary visits to your local veterinary office.
You and your pup will work together with the veterinary staff so he knows what to expect when he goes to the veterinarian rather than surprising or startling him later with a new experience.
